FAQ's

Who can apply for debt counselling?

South Africans with a monthly income may apply for debt counselling. If you do not have an income our firm will assist with other options.

How long will the debt counselling process take?

The application process is 60 days. You will remain under debt counselling until such time as all debt is repaid.

Is debt counselling the same as administration?

No, it is a new debt relief programme initiated by the National Credit Act.

Can I trust you with my money?

Only use reputable debt counsellors that are registered with the National Credit Regulator. A debt counsellor will never ask you to pay money directly into his/her account. All registered debt counsellors use a payment distribution agency.

What is a payment distribution agency?

It is an entity registered with the National Credit regulator that is mandated to distribute funds on your behalf to your creditors.

I have received a summons from a creditor.

If you received a summons or letter of demand from one of your creditors before you apply for debt counselling, that particular debt may not be included in the formal debt counselling process. Should you receive a summons after applying for debt review we will assist you in dealing with it.

Can all my debt be included in the debt counselling process?

All credit agreements, including home loans, vehicle finance, personal loans, credit cards, retail account etc. may be included. Other debt, arrears on school fees for example, may be included should the institution concerned agree to it.
